Now in their 29th year, the Sunderland Young Achievers Awards celebrate the achievements of young people between the ages of 8 and 20 years old, recognising their bravery, talent and positive contributions to their communities.

Oliver Marshall, aged 11, was the overall winner of the 2020 awards as well as the individual winner of the Sport category in the 8-13 years category.

Oliver, a trampoline gymnast, said:

“I think it’s important to celebrate Sunderland’s young people who are working really hard to achieve their goals and dreams. Being recognised for how hard we work gives us an extra boost – especially this year as we’ve all had to learn to adapt so much!”

Open to anyone living in Sunderland, Washington, Houghton and Hetton, award categories include: Music and Performing Arts, Personal Achievement, Young Carer, Young Apprentice, Volunteer, Sport and Service to the Community. Winners and runners-up will be invited to the Awards Ceremony, which will take place in July 2021.
