Services for disabled children

Together for Children provides a range of help to disabled children and young people, their families and carers in Sunderland.

The Children's Disability Service work with severely disabled children; this includes any child or young person up to the age of 18 who has a:

  • Substantial physical disability
  • Severe communication difficulty (including autistic spectrum disorder)
  • Severe learning disability

If you think you need help from the Children's Disability Service you will be offered an assessment.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities - our Local Offer
The aim of the Local Offer is to support children and young people (ages 0 to 25) with SEN and disabilities to feel included within their communities and to be independent.  It can help you make choices and decisions that may have a positive impact now and into the future.

Disabled Children Register
If you're a parent of a child with special educational needs and / or disabilities (SEND) you can also sign up for our Disabled Children Register (DCR). You and your family discount entry to attractions and days out across the North East. You'll also be kept up-to-date with developments in our services for disabled children and young people.
