Back to school for students in Sunderland

School students at school

Schools in Sunderland will reopen next week from Tuesday 1st September for the new term, which several measures being put into place within our city’s schools to reduce the risk of transmission of coronavirus.

The measures in place may differ from school to school to suit the needs of their individuals communities, but pupils can expect changes such as remaining in consistent peer groups, increased hand hygiene, and staggered timings for starting and finishing school and break times.

To support pupils and parents, the government has launched its #backtoschoolsafely campaign, which shares information, guidance and a series of videos about what to expect upon returning to school. Follow the campaign hashtag on social media for regular updates.

If you're a parent or carer, check out gov.uk/backtoschool for further information and guidance from the government.

To help you plan for your child's return to school, the government has also prepared a leaflet for returning to primary school and returning to secondary school (downloads available below).
