In response to Covid-19 and stay at home guidance Together for Children’s Next Steps team, Commissioning and Supported Accommodation teams have collaborated to deliver Staying Safe at Home Packs to young people in care.
Each pack contains games, games consoles, baking mixes, mindfulness colouring and exercise equipment
Together for Children’s semi-independent residences, that provide accommodation for care leavers from age 16 up to 21 will receive a pack.
Jill Colbert, Chief Executive of Together for Children, said: “These packs will support vulnerable young people who sometimes have additional anxieties and who lack the financial support that young people living with family members might have access to.
“I’m proud of the team effort to source and distribute these packs and I have no doubt that our young people will greatly appreciate them.”
Bethany Elliott, age 18, said: “It was great to receive this pack. I have enjoyed making a cake.”
Young people across Sunderland aged 11 to 18 who are feeling low or anxious can access professionally qualified counsellors online by visiting https://www.kooth.com/.
Children and young people in care can access support from Mind of My Own and by contacting their Together for Children Personal Advisor or Social Worker who, despite the current pandemic, are retaining the same level of contact, sometimes via virtual visits.
