Signs of Safety
Signs of Safety is an innovative strengths-based methodology to child protection casework that aims to 'build up' families by giving acknowledgment to what is going well and addressing what improvements are necessary.
As part of our commitment to the best outcomes for children and young people, Together for Children and Sunderland Safeguarding Children Partnership (SSCP) have launched a new best practice approach to child protection casework, with all staff and key partners to receive new Signs of Safety training.
The model, created in Australia, has attracted international attention and is currently being used in USA, Canada, UK, Sweden, The Netherlands, New Zealand and Japan.
Aims and objectives
- To help workers build partnerships with parents and children by using a strengths-based and safety-focused approach that is grounded in partnership and collaboration.
- To help workers develop risk assessments that balance rigorous exploration of dangers with indicators of strengths.
- To simplify and improve understanding among families.
