Kinship Carers

The Kinship Team at Together for Children (previously known as the Connected Carers Team) is involved in the assessment and support of Kinship Carers and Special Guardians. This is known as kinship care.

Kinship care is an arrangement where children who are unable to live with their parents, for a range of reasons, are brought up by family members, friends or other people who are connected to them. Together For Children places great significance to the level of care and commitment kinship carers provide to children and young people in their care, giving them a supportive home environment and opportunities for the future.

A Special Guardianship Order (SGO) is a Court Order that places a child or a young person to live with someone other than their parents. The Special Guardian will have enhanced parental responsibility than other persons with parental responsibility for the child.

The Kinship Team can continue to provide advice and guidance to Special Guardians after an Order is made.

To contact our Kinship Team, please email kinshipteam@togetherforchildren.org.uk or call the Duty Worker on 0191 561 5667.
